AI in article databases - Te AI ki ngā pātengi raraunga

Find out which AI features are in the library's article databases.

Many of the library's article databases have generative AI features. These features work in different ways.

Types of AI features

Some of the features you may see are:

  • searching using full sentences and questions
  • asking follow-up questions
  • summarising groups of search results
  • summarising and chatting with individual articles
  • and more.

The AI tools do not only rely on their training data but add the step of searching trusted documents – the contents of the database. This process is called retrieval augmented generation (RAG). This makes the results more reliable, but errors and misinterpretation are still possible. Always check the original source.

Acknowledging use of AI features

In most cases, these AI features help you find answers or summarise articles. Include a simple statement including the database, what you used it for, and how you verified it. For example:

I used [AI feature] in [database] to [find initial answers] and [checked those against the sources given].
