Pay international student fees - Wāhi utu mō ngā tauira kei whenua kē

International students need to pay tuition fees before applying for visas. Check when to pay your fees and view your payment options.

When to pay your fees

As an international student, you need to pay tuition fees in full before you can apply for a student visa to enter and study in New Zealand. Therefore, it is not possible to pay your fees by instalments or a payment plan. You also need to pay non-tuition fees and Studentsafe insurance charges.

When your payment has cleared, you get a Receipt of Payment or Statement of Account to give to Immigration New Zealand as part of your visa application. You need to log in to the ۶Ƶstudent portal to get these documents.

  • a credit balance, if the fees paid exceed the total amount invoiced
  • a zero balance, if the fees paid match the total invoice
  • a debit balance, if an additional payment is required because the fee estimate did not fully cover the invoice.

It is common for students with a cross‑year application to see a difference between their estimate and final invoice, as ۶Ƶ fees may increase each year.

Overdue fees

Returning students who have not paid their fees will receive reminders approximately 30 days after the beginning of the semester and then again at 60 days if their fees remain unpaid.

After 60 days, a suspension may be placed on their account, which will restrict their access to services. If their fees are still unpaid after 90 days or more, this debt may be transferred to a debt collection agency for recovery.

The due date for fees for returning students for Semester Two and Summer School courses is the 20th of the month before the start of the study period. If you enrol close to the start of the study period, this is why your fees will appear as overdue.
