Project Title: Hutia te rito: Māori men, birthing and whānau ora

This project seeks to provide practical exemplars of the role that the tane had in society, focusing on hapūtanga and early parenting. It embraces the male and female essences and asserts the need to enhance mana tangata, and importantly mana whānau, grounded in Māori concepts and approaches. I seek to connect tāne to these roles, with hapūtanga as a critical time when tāne can become pou, knowing when to step forward, when to step back and when to stand strong. These connections are often sidelined but can strengthen whanau beyond pregnancy and birth and provide ways of tāne being tāne who nurture uri within their whanau and hapū.
